Realistic Initiating Events for Advanced Reactors
Based on stakeholder discussions, there is currently a need for technical guidance related to the definition of various key types of initiating events for advanced reactors.
Research topics to be addressed include:
- What are the challenging initiating event definitions for advanced reactors?
- Include consideration of events for both design basis accidents and PRA
- Include consideration of events originating within the nuclear facility and from external sources
- Particular interest may relate to LOCA events and their assumed break frequencies
- What modifications to current event definitions are needed to support specific advanced reactor safety analyses?
- What uncertainties need to be treated for modified event definitions for advanced reactors?
